Half of my screen is black after installing a 1TB SanDisk SSD. The back lights are on, so it’s not that. I’ve heard there are many other people where this problem exists. Many different theories and ideas…. ie. fans, erase Fusion Drive (which I did erase) Any suggestions? BTW, it reverted to OSX 10.6.6 - I WAS on 10.13.6 could that be an issue?

Sadly, its none of these ideas! In the process of opening your system you damaged the display assembly. What happened and you’re not the first! Is using the wrong tools as well as the technique to remove the display. Most of the time people dig too far with the tools and use a tool which cuts into the fine wires that make up the grid (X-Y) wires that drive the LCD which are along the edge of the displays glass surface. The other is prying the display up which can stress it. If you release the adhesive correctly the picks and cards is all you need to lift it up enough to then with a light touch lift with your hands far enough up to disconnect the cables. I could even use my pinky fingers to do this just to put into scale the amount of force needed here when its done correctly. Review this IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2546 Display Replacement and you need to use the correct tools: iMac Opening WheelPlastic Cards - I would get two setsiFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6) And you do need to replace the adhesive strips [linked product missing or disabled: IF174-005-2] - I would get two sets. At this point you’ll need to buy a new display assembly here’s one source: iMac 27" LCD Display Panel & Front Glass Assembly (12/13)
