My jeep died one day and wouldn’t start back, went to swap the battery with a spare I had an long story short I hooked it up backwards. The next day my boyfriend tried to hook the original battery back up and it started smoking and sparking. So I’m just trying to figure out exactly how much damage I did. I found out the computer was my original issue, so Im just trying to decide whether it’s worth it to try and fix it or if I should just scrap it.
It really depends. How long was it smoking/ sparking? If you needed a new computer to begin with, then I’d go ahead n replace it n see what happens. Look for fusible links, and on the battery terminals on newer vehicles there are fuses that will blow to.protect everything. I’ve seen people do exactly what you did, and just blew a fuse at the battery. You’ll need to check your wiring and make sure nothing burnt. I wouldn’t scrap it. Mechanically it should be fine. Its just electronics we need to check out.
